Rooftop bars in London for summer

From Peckham car parks to Mayfair hotel terraces, London's rooftop bars are the best seats in the city this summer.

Rooftop bars are one of London’s great summer rituals, and the city has never offered a better or more diverse spread of sky-high venues than right now.

Iconic spots with big skyline views

Sky Garden sits on the 35th and 36th floors of the Walkie-Talkie building on Fenchurch Street. It opens early and closes late daily, with access to an open-air strip and a glass-clad, greenery-filled interior that frames the city beautifully. This is one of London’s most visited attractions, so book in advance. Views take in London Bridge, The Shard, and Tower Bridge. Booking ahead is essential, especially for sunrise sessions and music events.

At 110 Bishopsgate, a glass lift takes you to the 39th floor to find Sushisamba. Bringing together the flavours of Japan, Peru, and Brazil, it features some of the highest outdoor dining terraces in Europe. Guests mingle over cocktails and take in 360-degree views from the terrace. The energy here is cosmopolitan and lively, which I think captures this city perfectly.

Southbank and riverside terraces

The terrace at Somerset House has relaunched as Setlist, a river-facing space with live music and DJ sessions. The views of the Thames and South Bank are excellent, and the team behind it includes James Dye of Bambi and Frank’s, and Clement Ogbonnaya of the Prince of Peckham. The drinks list features creative cocktails, and there are also pop-ups from female chefs, DJs, and a 50-metre covered pavilion filled with art.

At Southbank Centre, 2 distinct rooftop settings exist. The first is the classic Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden Bar and Kitchen, and the second is the newer Seventy5th Balcony Bar, which opened in 2025. Views stretch over the River Thames and the central London skyline. The Seventy5th serves breakfast, sharing boards, small plates, and drinks. Both spots work perfectly for pre- or post-show drinks.

Soho and the West End

Boutique hotel Broadwick Soho has a top-floor bar and restaurant called Flute, with one of Soho’s largest rooftop terraces. The food is designed for sharing, from tuna tostadas to Jamón Serrano croquettes. The hotel has attracted a celebrity crowd ever since it opened. From 25 June to 31 August 2026, Flute transforms into a vibrant extension of Marrakech hotel El Fenn, complete with signature red and white stripes, enormous suspended Moroccan lanterns, and bold prints.

Perched atop 1 Warwick in Soho is rooftop restaurant and bar Yasmin. The wraparound terrace is a small but perfectly formed space with yellow-and-white striped parasols and foliage. The menu features Middle Eastern-inspired sharing plates and cocktails, including dishes like sumac smoked duck with grilled corn salad, za’atar mushroom skewers, and fresh tomato salad alongside signature cocktails. As a Londoner who loves the city’s diverse food culture, Yasmin feels like exactly the kind of place this city does best.

Expert perspective on rooftop bars

London’s rooftop bars have evolved into genuine cultural destinations, not just places to drink. The city’s diversity shows up clearly in these spaces. You can find a Moroccan-inspired terrace in Soho, a Caribbean-influenced event in the City, and a south London car park bar all operating at the same time, each with its own identity. What makes London’s rooftop scene stand out globally is this range. Venues now compete on experience: creative food programmes, resident DJs, artist collaborations, and seasonal transformations keep the offer fresh season after season. Bookings fill up fast in the summer months, and the trend is clearly towards more immersive, curated evenings rather than just drinks with a view. Guests want a full evening experience, and London’s rooftop bars deliver that better than almost any other city in the world.

The City and East London

Wagtail Rooftop Bar and Restaurant sits atop a 1920s building in the heart of the City of London. The restaurant offers fresh British cuisine, including weekend brunches, alongside classic cocktails. Wagtail enjoys near 360-degree views of the capital. From here you can spot Tower Bridge, The Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral, and The Gherkin. The venue is heated and covered and also has an outdoor terrace area.

Savage Garden sits on the 12th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel near the Tower of London. Described as London’s wildest rooftop bar, it features seasonal decor and 2 terraces with 360-degree views of the London skyline. The 2 terraces offer views of everything from Tower Bridge to the nearby neo-gothic Minster Building. The cocktail list is bold and theatrical, very much in keeping with the venue’s character.

Peckham and south London

Frank’s Cafe is a classic of the south London rooftop bar scene. This expansive bar and grill sits atop a multi-storey car park in Peckham and has become a regular fixture of a London summer. The menu features hot wings, charred aubergine, lamb kebabs, Campari-based drinks, and scenic views of the City and south London.

Every summer, Roof East in Stratford offers drinks, views, mini golf, batting cages, and lawn bowls. Street food vendors include Cheeky Burger and Turkish pide from Piddaji, and guests can also catch films under the stars. It is a massive rooftop adult play space and bar, which reopened in spring 2026. For people who want a rooftop that doubles as a full evening out, this place is unbeatable.

New openings worth watching

New for 2026 is Stanley’s at The Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel. Inspired by Red Carnation’s founder Stanley Tollman, the bar sits atop the very first property in the portfolio on Charles Street, Mayfair. It offers a fully retractable roof and space for up to 60 guests, with entry via an Art Deco lift.

The Rooftop at The Standard hotel in King’s Cross is one of few rooftop bars in that neighbourhood. This adults-only terrace opens each summer from April and offers views of the London skyline and the St Pancras Clocktower. It is an astroturfed 11th-floor terrace at the first hotel outside the US from hip hotel group The Standard. Guests come for close views of the Gothic spires of St Pancras International and for Afrobeats and house DJs.

Rooftop bars are where London summers happen

Rooftop bars are one of the clearest signs of how much this city has changed and how much it continues to evolve. London’s rooftop bars now span every neighbourhood, every budget, and every style. Whether you book a table at a polished City terrace or walk up to a Peckham car park with a group of friends, the experience is unmistakably London. London’s rooftop bar offering is unrivalled. Sky-high spots are scattered across the city, offering a buzzy atmosphere and panoramic views, from glitzy hotel bars to trendy venues atop car parks. Go find your favourite rooftop bars this summer, and remember: the views are only part of the story.
